CLAUSTROPHOBIA AND HOW TO OVERCOME IT

The fear of small spaces

lift CLAUSTROPHOBIA SUFFERS IN BIRMINGHAM & WALSALL ANXIETY HYPNOSISClaustrophobia, or to use its common name, the fear of small spaces, is an anxiety related disorder that often brings on panic attacks when an individual finds themselves in an enclosed or confined space such as an elevator, train, aircraft or even a small room. The fear usually stems from the affected individual believing that they cannot escape or “get out” from an enclosed or suffocating situation. Like most other fears or phobias, claustrophobia normally develops due to a previous experience in the sufferers’ earlier life, usually a trauma or life-threatening situation.

Surprisingly for some, claustrophobia can also be experienced in open spaces. This occurs when the sufferer is part of a large crowd or gathering and again, feels that they are unable to escape from the crowd and find their own space once again. This can occur in places such as concerts, or even inside a packed cinema.

Sufferers are normally aware that their fear is irrational, but when faced with a sudden or unexpected situation where they feel they cannot escape, they usually enter a state of panic and the fear overcomes their normal rationality.

Common Symptoms

When an enclosed space situation arises around an affected individual, the following symptoms are common:
Heavy sweating
The fear of physical or actual harm
Shaking of the limbs
Increased heart rate
Dizziness (light – headedness)
Nausea
Difficulty in breathing

Often, when an individual realizes that they suffer from claustrophobia, the symptoms can seem worse and also arise more often. The individual tends to avoid more and more areas where they feel that an enclosed situation may occur and the subsequent anticipation of a panic attack actually increases their anxiety and heightens their fears.

What can I do to overcome and manage my fear of small spaces?

The treatment of claustrophobia is very similar to that of other anxiety related fears and phobias. As claustrophobia is almost always a learned response to an enclosed space situation, it can also be un-learned just as effectively. Anxiety Hypnosis is by far the best and most successful way to control your claustrophobia and through using Anxiety Hypnosis you can not only learn to manage this fear but overcome it completely.

The Nexus Team Hypnotherapy (Anxiety Hypnosis) have been helping clients from Birmingham, Walsall and the surrounding areas, overcome claustrophobia and their fears of small spaces for many years, all in safe and comfortable surroundings.

Following on with the how to conquer the fear of spiders

…The Sequel…

Rational thinking v Irrational thinking…

The Nexus Team Anxiety Hypnosis helping you to conquer the fear of spidersWhen faced with one of your worst fears such as spiders then before you get to the stage of total panic, it would help to deal with your phobia in a rational manner.

Lets get this sorted by thinking about your fear in a much more rational way, so when the time comes, being face to face with your worst enemy, you’ll have the confidence to be calm and not let it bother you.

Irrational Thinking.

If you have a real fear of spiders then you don’t need me to tell you how you feel as this was also in my last blog.
The brain working irrationally, hasn’t the power of cognitive thought to be able to deal with this problem, and so this has to be addressed at the conscious cognitive level of rational thinking.
You have to realise that you cannot overcome the fear using irrational thinking to solve your fear of spiders. This has to be done using rational thinking and in the next chapter I will tell you what you have to do.
The only issue is that you have to use your mind to do this. Not simply to just get on and do as the words that I will convey to you, that will have to be processed by your new thinking patterns.

Rational Thinking.

Firstly with rationality what are you actually fearful of? Irrational thinking will just say the ‘spider’ but think more deeply and you’ll start to know what the problem actually is…

All fears will go once you understand them, I will give you an example of when we use the statement ‘I don’t like him’. What is it specifically about that person? Lets face it that we can have a dislike of someone just by the colour of their skin or sexual orientation because of our support of a bias nature.

1. I don’t like their attitude.
2. I don’t like how they talk.
3. I don’t like their style of clothes
4. I don’t like how they smell.
5. I don’t like their politics.
6. I don’t like who they support.

This list could go on, but once you know specifically what your prejudices are you can work to correct them because it is you with the problem, fear, phobia, and dislike.
This attitude will manifest towards many things in your life and that can be a negative, poisonous way to think and live.

Now what is it that you don’t like about a spider?

1. Is it the size?
2. It it their speed?
3. Is it their shape?
4. Is it how they make you feel?
5. Is it because they hide?
6. Is it the eyes?

Again this list could go on, but once you narrow this down you only have to deal with what is your particular issue and not the whole spider.

I Like Spiders.

I like spiders because…

I would like you to write down 30 words of what you would like about a spider. You might even say that you like Spider-Man and so you become your own hero and conquer the fear once and for all.

Once you start to reprogrammed your mind on thinking differently about spiders you will start to eradicate the negativity and so feel more in control with spiders. At this point and this should go without saying, it is important that you don’t kill them as all life is precious, also this would undo the aim of getting you fearless and not to be a killer.

Who do you know is an Arachnophile.

Or spider lover…

You can talk to those who don’t mind spiders and see what they have to say on the subject or start your own research on YouTube etc and get to know as much as you can about spiders.
Realising that you want to change, then for that to happen you have to gain knowledge.
Think of it like this if it helps. … You start a new job in a new place and you don’t know everyone’s name or the order of how things are done and what times events take place or the type of people you’ll be working with.
So you feel anxious, nervous and stressed out. But give it a week or so and you know the route and the dynamics of the style of people you work with and now you don’t feel anxious or stressed out and you are happy to go to work. Well this what will happen once you understand the dynamics of spiders.

What to do next…

living in the UK we don’t get really big spiders especially in the Birmingham area etc.
but if you have tried to get over your fear and still haven’t managed it. I can be of help with Anxiety Hypnosis because I have techniques that work on phobias to help reprogram your thinking and so dispel the negative charge you have towards a fear of spiders.
So if you want confidence in managing this by being rational when in the presence of a spider, I can help you accomplish that and it may only take you two or three sessions.

But all that said give this ago with rational positive thinking and if you can find more reasons to like spiders or indeed any insect, please let me know.
Good luck and enjoy your spider free life from The Nexus Team at Anxiety Hypnosis.

FINDING THE CURE FOR ARACHNOPHOBIA (THE FEAR OF SPIDERS)!

What is Arachnophobia?

Conquering the Fear of Spiders with The Nexus Team Anxiety Hypnosis in Walsall & Birmingham.Arachnophobia, or the fear of spiders as it’s more commonly known, can be an extremely troubling phobia but on the other hand, fairly simple to resolve. The reactions brought on by the phobia itself can range drastically according to its severity, with light sufferers simply not having a strong dislike to the creepy, long-legged look of the spider to the most severe cases which can cause the affected individual to experience panic or anxiety attacks whenever they see, or even think they see a spider.
Whilst it is true that the majority of people in the UK and around the world feel uncomfortable whilst near or in the presence of a spider, the reaction from an arachnophobic when seeing or thinking about a spider can be very extreme. As with other similar phobias, the fear of spiders is often a sub-conscious fear, making the use of The Nexus Team’s Anxiety Hypnosis is the best way to banish this fear once and for all.
The fear of spiders often feels irrational to us, especially for those individuals residing in the United Kingdom, as we already know that there is not one species of spider that could actually cause us harm. JOB INTERVIEW NERVES

The Nexus Team Anxiety Hypnosis conquering job and career nerves Birmingham Walsall

Every single individual on earth experiences an “attack of the nerves” at some point in their life. Maybe you’re asking someone out on a date, have an important sports game coming up or you may even have a dreaded job interview on the horizon. At a job interview, a sudden attack of nerves or anxiety could potentially lose you the job. However, with simple treatments from me and the Anxiety Hypnosis specialist with The Nexus Team Hypnotherapy in Birmingham and Walsall, you can take control of your anxiety and banish your interview nerves for good.

How can I control my nerves and anxiety during a job interview?

There are also a few practices that you can follow to help control your pre-interview nerves and ensure that your interview goes as smoothly and successfully as possible: STOP your Stressing right now!

Forward Planning…

This seems like a simple thing to do right? Well, too often than not, job applicants enter the interview with little or no preparation and simply rely on their resume or personality to get them through the interview. This is fine if you are an individual who is full of confidence, but if you are susceptible to bouts of nervousness or anxiety attacks, a lack of preparation could be crucial. Make sure that you have gone through the interview in your head, over and over again for a few days before the interview. Practice the most common interview questions with a friend or family member and polish your answers. You can even practice in your interview clothing to make it seem even more realistic. Do thins with more than one person and even set up 3 or 4 people playing devils advocate. If you know of someone who does interviewing in their job, you may like them to test you out! Practice makes perfect, so to speak…

Pre-interview relaxation…

In the hours leading up to your interview, try to put yourself in a relaxed mood by doing something that makes you feel comfortable and at ease. This could be inviting a friend over for some green tea and chat, having a soothing massage or even listening to your favorite music in the comfort of your own home. Laughter is also a great relaxant, so stick on a funny movie or comedy show to help disperse your nervous thoughts.

Be open and honest…

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to try to cover up your nervousness or anxiety to your potential employer. This can cause you to lose focus in your interview and concentrate more on hiding your emotions than connecting to the interviewer. Remember, it is perfectly normal to be nervous at a job interview and your potential employer will usually understand that this as part of the interview process. At the beginning of the interview you can say “I apologize, I am feeling a little nervous today” or “It has been a while since I was last in this position, I am a little nervous”. This will put both you and the interviewer at ease from the outset and calm your nerves significantly. An expert interviewer will see past you bluffing confidence.

What can I do next?

If you feel that your nervousness or anxiety could affect your potential job interviews then contact me at The Nexus Team Anxiety hypnosis today. With help from me, you can take control of your pre-interview nervousness and anxiety, ace that interview and land the job of your dreams!

Most of the time with interviews they look to see if they like you and could work with you and how well you would carry out orders and instructions also how well you know the vacancy you have applied for.

However at the end of the day you must realise that you feel you want a Anxiety professional to help you and get you confident, in control and be anxious free. The Nexus Team may just be the person to seek if you require a more in-depth assistance and better result.

So remember there are people to help if you suffer from being anxious, stress or a full blown panic attack. People not only in Birmingham and Walsall go though this but it is in nearly in everyone who judges themselves as suffering of lack of confidence or low self-esteem.

Interview qualifications a job candidate must possess on a checklist clipboard including experience, communication, education and other skills necessary for a new position in your career

Conquering the fear of flying…

Conquering the fear of flying can be easy when you chose to put your mind to changing an old belief thought pattern. As you know we aren’t scared of everything in life as that would just be down right crazy.

Some people have a fear of dogs and you don’t, you tell them that they’re alright and nothing will happen to them. However the person really doesn’t believe you and then they start to panic, this will only subside when they and the dog are far away from each other.

This is how you have to think when you’re afraid of flying and wanting to conquer the fear of flying.

Don’t be afraid of the dark…

Here is another thought you can have that will get you to come to your senses so to speak. Remember a time as a child and you had a fear. This could have been afraid of the dark, you always had to sleep with the light on. No matter how many times you where told that there wasn’t anything there to be afraid of, you had to have the light on!

You don’t have to sleep with the light on now that you’re a grow-up, WHY? At some realisation in your mind you knew that you no longer needed the light on to sleep. When this happened you realised that you felt a lot better and more relaxed.

You have to take notice when I say fear isn’t real because if it was, you would still need that light to be on so that you could sleep.

What A brilliant mind you have!

Now I would like you to utilise this part of your thinking to exercise your brilliant mind to eliminate the part of you that is fearful of flying, because the fear isn’t real. I can imagine if you have a young child that you will be telling them the exact same thing as you where told that there’s nothing to be afraid of.

It’s all pretend…

When we have fears even though they aren’t real, if you say that fear of flying is real, then you will believe your own statement. On the other hand however, if you are told that you cannot do something such as amount to anything good, because this is a statement from another person we choose not to agree with them and you will go out of your way to prove them wrong.

One could say at this point that you haven’t got the guts to fly and you would feel bound by your word to prove me wrong and I could also say that I dare you?

Be a skilled warrior!

Now you have to start making better choices by moving forward to taking tentative steps towards accomplishing your goal of flying. If it helps you, think of that time of being afraid in the past and use your skills that you will conquer this forever as you are the brave warrior.

Lets face it at the end of the day you really don’t have to fly, but if you don’t conquer this you will be wondering what might have been and like the child with the light on you’ll always stay like that.

Now is the time to change…

So now is the time in your life particularly if your reading this that your getting ready to be Flying Fabulously with my help and support with the Flying Fabulously Tool Kit. If however you would prefer a one to one session if you feel that this would work faster for you In the Birmingham and Walsall areas with me The Nexus Team. I have over 10 years of experience in getting my clients over their fears, anxiety and phobias with Anxiety Hypnosis.

HOW TO MANAGE PANIC ATTACKS!

What is a panic attack?

Panic attack in lift. Anxiety Hypnosis in Birmingham, Walsall The Nexus Team A panic attack can be best described as a sudden and intense feeling of overwhelming fear and/or anxiety. This can result in dizziness, shortness of breath and an increase in heart rate. Panic attacks can often lead to the affected individual suffering panic disorders and even withdrawing from their normal daily routines in fear that they may re-occur. With the help and treatment from me The Nexus Team and the highly skilled Anxiety Hypnosis, you can take control of these attacks once and for all.

How can I manage my panic attacks?

In addition to our treatment program, there are a few simple guidelines listed below that can significantly reduce and even eliminate these panic attacks from occurring again in the future:

1. Don’t Panic – If there is only once piece of advice that you take from this post, then this would be it. Try to think of your attack like a wave. A wave is only temporary and soon enough, it will pass. The sooner that you can let the wave pass over you, the faster the anxiety will subside.

2. Keep Talking – If you are having an attack and there are people around you, try to talk to them as much as possible. Say whatever is on your mind, no matter how irrational the thoughts may be, this helps to release tension and expels the thoughts from your mind. If you are on your own, this method still helps even if you are talking to yourself or even to the television.

3. Keep Moving – By keeping your body active during an attack, you can disperse the energy and adrenaline that the attack has brought on. If you can, try to go outside for a walk along the street or in the garden. Even pacing back and forth inside the house can keep your body active and your mind empowered.

4. Don’t Forget to Breathe – During the onset of an attack, you may struggle to breathe as easily or deeply as you normally would. This is normal for an attack of this kind but concentrating on your breathing can really help. Focus on your inhale and exhales fully and try to exhale as slowly as possible. This method will help regulate your breathing and bring your heart rate down.

5. Stay Positive – Stay strong, and feel proud of yourself when you have overcome an attack. Once the attack is over, give yourself a pat on the back and realize that you have come through it and you are determined to eliminate these attacks once and for all and realise that you have always been alright and have gotten through it, haven’t you?

Helping you towards success.

Your mind is playing with you.

Fear is the illusion of thought, do we live in a world full of illusions. Anxiety is an illusion but we’re connected to the fear and anxiousness all the time that we believe in it so much. That for some people it’s a constant threat on their mind and health.
What do I mean by the illusion? Have you ever been out walking and you see a dead cat lying in the road, when you get closer it’s a screwed up black plastic bag, yet just a few steps away, you believed that it was a dead cat.

Anxiety is an a illusion by The Nexus Team Anxiety HypnosisI know of someone who told me that one night they were walking down the road and they saw a settee in the middle of the road. When they got closer, it was the shading on the tarmac. The street lighting had made it a 3D image. It’s all an illusion and I’m sure you will have had your own experiences.
What colour is it?

How many times have you said that a colour is purple for example and someone else sees it as different shade and so on. And you cannot see how they can say it is the colour they think it is compared to your colour. Not so long ago we had the Optical illusion: Dress colour debate goes global. This was a dress that was seen as gold and white, blue and white, blue and blue or blue and black. It’s all an illusion.

Fact! There is no fear.

Anxiety, fear and stress are illusions and so believable that it’s hard not to believe in anything else. Also if you made the decision to state that you are anxious or have a fear of flying then that means you have been lying to yourself for a very long time. You may not want to own up to the fact that this isn’t true, so you created the lie and believed in it. In Birmingham I see many people who have suffered these exact same symptoms. So at Anxiety Hypnosis we use many tools to help people just like you to break their belief system and live an Anxiety free life. This works whether you live in Birmingham or in the rest of the country.

Tool kit thinking.

1) Stop trying to make sense of your anxiety.
2) Don’t judge anything to do with anxiety.
3) Don’t give any anxious thoughts any recognition.
4) Just for today, stand up to yourself and be fearless.
5) Chose a relaxing colour – now mentally paint your world that colour.

I realise that life can be hard and challenging, but you have to live a full healthy life and I can help you overcome your illusions of stress, anxiety, and fears.
