We are all running some type of a trance no matter what it is because this is what we do. Driving your car is you being in a trance. Doing anything mundane is you in a trance, in an awaken state none the less. Although non-mundane things are also achieved, this can be seen with a musician that can play the guitar exquisitely and never looks where his fingers are placed. Why? because his unconscious can do the work for him i.e. in a trance.

A Trance Is a Trance.

At Nexus Hypnotherapy, The Nexus Team has his own particular style of working, more often than not change happens in just one visit. Sometimes people can find this hard to accept and so they will need one or two more and that can be it, job is done so to speak. Obviously, if there is deep trauma then more visits will be required until that person feels well enough emotionally to be able to cope on their own. But even in suicidal thoughts and sexual abuse, these have been dealt with in one session. But we are all different and so you are best not to put unrealistic results on your change, but rather go with how you feel at the end and work from there.

The Sliding Scale of Anxiety.

Anxiety affects us all in varying degrees from mild forms to severe attacks and it is relentless as it can come on at any time no matter where you are or what you are doing. This can lead to Panic Attacks and IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome) Most often this can just start on waking up and lying in bed, the feeling of dread can be overwhelming to say the least.

But What Is My Anxiety.

A few things can cause anxiety. but anxiety is and always will be just the symptom and not the cause. Most people deal with the symptom and not the cause and so they never really get better. Start to notice the cause of anxiety.
Anxiety is really no more than you thinking of a future event that you have no idea how it will turn out and this leads your mind to create negative scenarios that only make you feel anxious.
Let’s face it, you can have a panic attack lying in bed, Why? because your mind is overactive with negative imagination and the WRONG information. This all leads to anxiety.

What To Do?

It’s hard to switch off and no one said you should, but rather use the power your fertile imagination gives you to help you get well and recognise that you can start to deal with the cause and not the symptom. It can feel, to begin with, that you start to change because you have been hardwired from birth to think and feel anxious. Most people’s anxiety is 50% of somebody else’s and so in a split second, you can halve your anxiety. Now to get rid of another 25% of your anxiety is too realise that you are the experiencer of the anxiety and NOT the anxiety itself. So now you are down to 25%.
Halve this again to 12.5% by noticing that you are responding in a set way or pattern of behaviour and if you change, this you will reduce the feelings that you once associated with anxiety. It is your choice how you respond with your thinking. You are in control.
Now that you are down to 12.5% – how easy is this to deal with on your own now?

Master Your Thoughts.

Mastering the mind is one of the hardest things you can do, but you can treat it the same way as you would with keeping yourself clean. Do things that help clean your mind and your thoughts, just as you wash, you get dirty again and then you have to bathe again, all your life this happens. Your mind and thoughts are no different. Run a mental antivirus programme in your head by not letting your negative thoughts dictate how you should feel, in other words, don’t let people steal your happiness. Don’t download their problems.

What To Do Now.

Change by doing subtle things, walking, playing music, singing, feel lighter, stop gossiping, swearing, moaning, and judging others.
Do what your heart feels it wants to do, you don’t have to pack in your job, but to add balance in your life, earning money can be as enjoyable as spending it… Notice and write down, if your life is in balance. Look at the tyres on a car, for the car to run smoothly on the road all the tyres are all inflated to the right pressure. We have all had one flat tyre and the car drives uneven even though the other 3 are at the right pressure, In other words, negative thinking will unbalance your whole day and life if you’re not careful.

How Confident Are You?

Confidence has to be one of those emotions that we find hard to have or at least hold onto when others try to knock our confidence. See how parents take your confidence away as they tell you how cocky you are in your puberty years, they say ‘you’re getting too big for your boots’ as well as many other sayings. Rather than saying that they should help you temper and channel your confidence. People are too eager to take other people’s confidence away from them.

Here’s Some Good News With Confidence.

You cannot take anyone’s confidence away from them, but you can surrender it. You are born with confidence which is a natural inheritable state of life. Have you noticed other’s dictate how they have no confidence, but they are very confident in telling you that they have little or no confidence?

Back Burner.

Confidence can sit on the back burner so to speak as you use other coping methods that help you avoid situations and so you stop using your born right to be confident. Other emotions have masked your confidence so much that you believe that you don’t have any and this is not true. All therapist’s do is convince you to remove your old coping mechanisms and to build on positive past experiences and cement those seeds to use your new found confidence in your future.

Power Pose.


Standing in front of a full-length mirror for 2 mins every day in a power stance will boost your confidence. I find it strange that overweight people feel they have no confidence until they lose their weight, I guess they think all thin people have confidence and that is clearly not true. Confidence is in your control and how you choose to act confidently or not.

7 Tips On Being Confident.

#1 Use your power pose to emit your confidence to others. Do 2 mins practice every day or more if possible.

#2 Wear clothes that have a powerful effect on you. Dress powerfully, but act relaxed. Remember the duck, on the surface of the water he is calm, but below, he paddles like mad.

#3 Start to reinforce your confidence with posture, relaxation and positive mental thinking.

#4 Take control back because you are in control and all it takes is practice. Look at life, how to master anything competently, you have to practice, as do footballers. musicians, actors to name a few. You are in control.

#5 Help bring out confidence in others, this will help you to feel more confident with how you act. It’s self-help and free.

#6 If you know someone who has the confidence you admire, this could be an actor or a family member, then notice how they act and here’s the easy bit, copy them on how they stand or notice how nothing phases them.

#7 Confidence comes from your breath and so use your breath. Singers have breath control. People lacking confidence will speak in a scared way, timid and nervous. Confident people as you will know will speak with a more commanding voice. Your confidence lies in your breath because no one has the power to take your confidence. YOU are in control.

We Have Free Will.

We have free choice or what you may call free will in life, however, we are not free from the consequences of the choice that we make.
So why does this happen? Basically, it is our choice of desire, when we desire, as free will, we can desire anything, but that desire brings unforeseen problems, this leads to Anxiety, Depression, Guilt to name a few.

A Desire of Consequences

A desire to eat food, but not just any food, but food you know is off limits until you lose your weight. Your desire becomes overwhelming and you tuck into that big piece of chocolate cake. At this point, you had free will whether to eat it or not. But now the decision is made, you are now without free will of choice, which means you’re left with the consequences. These consequences of your desire are now out of your control and you are left with a heap of emotions, such as Guilt, Disappointment, Low self-esteem, and Discouragement. This leaves you feeling worthless or disgusted with your actions and so you beat yourself up by saying why did I do that. Why didn’t I just say no!

Do You Need To Feed Your Ego?

But this can happen on any level of your desires, such as wanting a house, car and clothes as there is a sliding scale of consequences. The big problem is that it is not so much that there are consequences, but rather that we never think about them at the time of us wanting to just feed the EGO. Now you should realise that you will never satisfy your ego, which means it continually leads you down dead-end paths that lead to nowhere. But you never learn, philosophy says that you will keep on being given the same problem over and over again until you learn from it. …This is true!

7 Tips to help you.

# 1 You cannot stop your ego, but you can separate from it by not feeding your ego. e.g You may say how you donate to charity or buy food for the animals and so you are saying ‘what a great person you are’ this is ego. You cannot feed an animal, you can only offer it food as only the animal can feed itself, this is non-ego as it is a separation from ego.

# 2 You cannot stop desires because wanting to stop a desire is in itself a desire. But rather look at the consequences firstly. If you can cope with what could go wrong with your desire, then you are less likely to get upset or angry later when things go wrong.

# 3 Ask yourself before you are parted with your hard earned money, With what I want to buy, will it enhance or enrich my life. Wait for a moment or walk away and return later to see if it is still the same desire for you. It’s your free will on what you want to do.

# 4 Ask yourself if you can manage the consequences of your actions of desire. e.g say you are travelling by air and everything is booked and paid for. You expect that you will have a trouble-free journey and why not, this is not about thinking of negativity. So your flight is delayed, this has an emotional response via your ego and so you feel frustrated, angry and anxious. But it is no surprise that these things happen and if you had put this into your plans, you would have been less stressed etc. You are taking metal insurance out on yourself.

# 5 Realise that things are just meant to happen to you, this is not personal, it’s just life. The people who at a time of little transport felt when they missed the inaugural sailing of the Titanic and their ego was getting so angry, stressed and anxious. But a few days later, they felt their relief because of what happened.

# 6 This is simple but some find it hard to follow, this is just to go with the flow of life. You are not a salmon fighting your way back upstream to spawn. Go with the flow of life as a cloud in the sky goes with the flow of the breeze. Imagine all the clouds fighting the wind, what a mess!

# 7 Stop recycling old thoughts and patterns of negative behaviours. The only reason you have a problem today is that you are recycling yesterday’s rubbish. Tomorrow is a brand new day of unlimited possibilities, so go and have fun.

The Power Of Consciousness.

The power of consciousness or the idea that you can create conscious thoughts to change the world around you would seem impossible. However, we do have the power of consciousness that can influence matter.

Mouldy Rice.

I’ve conducted an experiment, I have cooked rice then transferred this into two clean jam jars. One has HATE and the other has LOVE written on it. After shouting at the hate jar once and then telling the loved one how special it was every day. After a few weeks the one with love on it stayed fresher. The one with Hate on it went mouldy. If this can happen to cooked rice, then what about how we can talk negatively to a child. What impact does this create in a child’s mind ?

Young children are not born with a filter that will stop negative thoughts entering their little minds. This is because they need to download information in their formative young years. So if a child breaks something by accident, negative parents will scold that child and say how stupid, idiot, useless or naughty they are etc…

What a surprise that you end up with a child who can have tantrums, be naughty or be unruly. Later these kids either grow up to develop anorexia, behavioural problems at school, Introvert, and may even be a bully or an abuser in later life.

Children have to be shown and taught by example because you will effect their consciousness because of how you speak to your child. You have the power right now to change that today with positive words and statements. Never treat your child to junk food as a treat and don’t pay them for doing jobs around the house. But treat them to a good quality meal as a celebration of what they mean to you and the family as a whole. If you want to pay them for a job, give them money for reading books and achieving goals. Imagine the mindset of a child brought up like this.

Life is a Matter of Priorities.

Circumstances Will Dictate

We may set priorities in our life but circumstances will dictate otherwise. What do I mean? Say if you are driving your car to a very important meeting, ‘this is your main priority’ you have to get there as a lot depends on this. Then you get a puncture and now getting the tyre repaired is your number 1 priority.

For example you may have a fear of the dentist, this fear may keep you away from the dentist until you cannot stand the pain any longer. Now your priority changes, so all the time you avoided going to the dentist, you ended up there anyway, so what was the point!

Stop Supporting Your Fear.

Avoidance doesn’t stop the fear, it continually supports it. Deep in your mind you know this and so you create other priorities that will hopefully combat the fear to go away. This never happens on a long term basis.

What can you do?

  • Realise what your fear will do if you continue to support it – such as your teeth will rot and be painful.
  • Seek out help at the first opportunity to help you get rid of your fear. I have known people have a fear for 20 years or more. That is crazy!
  • You can only feel better, successful and triumphant when you get over a fear.
  • See your fear as a challenge to grow, rather than something to hold you back.

Think Of Being A Success.

Make time to have the right priority to help you change. Realise that successful people have the same problems that you have. So what’s the difference? Low priority will keep you locked into negativity with your problem. Successful people will tell you how they overcame their problem by making their problem a priority to be abolished.

The Treatment TO Help Anxiety.

There are many methods on how to treat anxiety and each one will work, but not one single treatment will work for everyone.

Let’s face it, we are all different, it only seems to be the medical profession that has the ideology that one pill fits all patients. There are too many variables with people to know which one would suit your specific needs. But you can always give this on ago.

Breathe.

We are probably all familiar about breathing, knowing how important your breath is, also how it relaxes you. It is not surprising to know that when giving first aid, you always have to check that the airway is clear. This is why when medical responders are on a first response they always give oxygen as the first point of call.

Anxiety Tip.

Anxiety
Although this is a practical tip, it isn’t always possible to implement, however you can do this at least once a day. Hopefully this will go a long way to knowing that you have an extra tool to help you fight your anxiety.

It would seem that any tip to help combat anxiety should be long drawn out or complicated. But this one is really very easy and simple to do.

My tip is that when you lie down get a very heavy blanket to cover yourself. The body somehow responds to this treatment. This could be that you feel more grounded when you have something heavy on you. The alternative to this is to wear a heavy coat whenever possible when you are out and about, especially in the winter time.

Clothes.

People either like to wear tight or loose clothing, here again we are all different. But if you like to wear loose clothing and you suffer from anxiety, it would be an interesting experiment to see how your anxiety would fair if you wore tight clothes. This again would give you the feeling of been grounded by warding off the feeling of anxiousness. Think about the times your shoes have been hurting you because they were too tight. You could think of nothing else but to take off your shoes and feel some relief. You don’t have to have your clothes that tight, but just enough to feel them.

The Level Of Consciousness

The level of consciousness is calibrated at 1 to 1000, although it can go higher logarithmically. Although for human beings it is set from 1 to 1000.

What Does This Mean For You…

Depending on where you are in your mental state of consciousness, it is calibrated to a specific number on this chart. Consequently, you become the experiencer of this particular vibration and this number is set on the chart. For instance, anger is set a 150, so if you are in an angry state of mind, this means you are a 150 on the chart of consciousness. So you will have the experience of anger. So there are many numbers that represent how you will feel.

Are You Below 200?

When we have negative problems such as Anger, Fear, Guilt, Shame which are set at 150 or below they affect your mental state of consciousness. These are below 200 where all the problems are.
